Time Goes On

May has been a crazy month. Actually, let me back-track. This has been a crazy year. I started working toward my Master's in Strategic Communications in July. I've been struggling with a lot of personal things such as motivation to work out, weight, trying to focus on school, losing my social life, and trying to truly understand being in love. It's been crazy to say the least. A lot has changed and it's difficult for me to express those changes in a short blog post. Let me just stay more recent…

On May 12th, I was let go from my job. It's amazing how time has been flying by. The first week I ran some errands I had been putting off and frantically searched job sites. I had two interviews the week I was let go so I was sitting on the edge of my seat. Needless to say I received good news - I have a job again! It has always been my dream to work at Balboa Park and now I do. I am extremely excited for the next adventure in my life.

It's the end of May and I am one month away from being done with school. I will have my Master's degree. I wish I felt more accomplished but I don't. I even considered going back to school to get a Professional Certificate in Marketing but I can't justify the eight grand that would be. I've been debating on whether or not I should walk at my graduation. Some people from my program are walking and asked me if I am doing the same. I haven't even applied for my graduation yet… or do I still do that in Grad school? I don't know.

Where does the time go? This year is moving too quickly. I remember it being a miserable hot summer like it was just yesterday. The miserable, hot summer is back.

Jessica's Birthday Shenanigans

I've been playing catch up with all my photos because of my "mini hiatus."

Let me tell you a little something about me. I love going out with friends to restaurants and talking and laughing over delicious food. Since starting my weight-loss journey, it's been difficult for me to do that without going slightly overboard. However, Jessica is great because she loves fresh, healthy food and I can count on her to try anything with me. For her birthday we had sushi at Ikiru Japanese Restaurant. I have a slight obsession with sushi because it's always fresh and always has great flavor. This sushi restaurant is one of my favorites because of the variety of sushi rolls and the fresh ahi poke salad. After sushi, we headed over to Wine Steals to drink some delicious wine. I had a red and then a sparkling wine. Overall, a great night with wonderful people... oh and YUMMY food!

Ahi Poke salad with an amazing apple garnish

My splurge item: spicy calamari

the "Harbor Roll" with spicy tuna, cucumber on the inside and seared hamachi and fire sauce on the outside.

With the birthday girl!

Wine Steals - look at all that wine!

Enjoying some wine! Wish it was in focus! hehe

Happy belated Birthday Jessica!

Until next time, keep smiling.

Thursday Workout

It's been a crazy end to my week but I am ready for Monday (shockingly!). Thursday was probably one of the best workouts I had at Fitness Together. First, I started with Palani directing me to the scale. I really appreciate that he's still keeping me accountable for the weekly weight in. I weighed a bit less than last week and he said he was proud of me. It's always a great feeling when someone is proud of you but even better to know that I was proud of myself. I love the support!

As for the workout, Erin had us do a lot more TRX than what was listed and I was stoked. One of my favorite pieces of equipment is the TRX because I use my own body weight with it. Near the end, Erin asked us how we wanted to end our session and I pointed at the ropes, "Battle ropes!" She was shocked. I was shocked, too. Palani use to make me and Vanessa do them and they were awful. I couldn't move them long enough and I always felt defeated by them. However, after building up my strength and endurance I was able to do them for 45 seconds straight. Like it was nothing! I was impressed with myself. Then Erin had to introduce me to battle rope jumping jacks - there goes my celebration. Battle rope jumping jacks are my new challenge!

 The infamous battle ropes!

Here's a better view of the day's workout. We did a lot more TRX then what is shown here.

After a good workout on Thursdays, I like to treat myself to some delicious sushi. Sushiya has 50% off cut rolls and specialty rolls on Thursdays so it's a cheap way to get some yummy fish. I always look forward to Sushi Thursdays!

What do you like to treat yourself to after a good workout?

Lots of posts coming up this week! I celebrated Jessica's birthday this weekend and I have lots of pictures to share.

Until then, keep smiling!
